Chlorine: Filtering and Pressing
Intended Learning Objectives
1. Filter and purify silver chloride for AMS analysis by using disposable syringes, inorganic membranes, and sequential acid treatments to ensure a clean, well-settled precipitate.
2. Prepare and press cathodes for chlorine-36 measurement by layering silver bromide substrate, pressing samples into cathodes under controlled pressure, and ensuring proper sample placement for AMS analysis.
3. Understand the significance of chlorine-36 analysis at SUERC by recognizing the facility’s unique capabilities and the value of hands-on experience in cosmogenic nuclide research.
